Elena is the restless mind behind Hey Wawa. Although she now flies free exploring visual art in all its forms (from editorial illustration to motion graphics), Elena has deep roots in textile design for the fashion industry.

For this reason, he knows the language of fabrics well, he knows how a print behaves and he understands that the support is not just a canvas, it is part of the work.

Knowing that she also produced from Granada, the connection was instantaneous and we were clear that we wanted her to be the one to transform one of our Christmas packs into inspiration.

The challenge: Turning winter into an accessory

For this collaboration, Elena set herself a challenge: to capture the essence of the Winter Solstice. I wanted to capture the light of the longest night of the year, the mystical cold and elegance of those dates without falling into the usual Christmas clichés.

Their tool? Watercolor. Its canvas? Our Tie + 2 Handkerchiefs Pack.

This pack is one of our favourites to give as a gift because it allows you to play with the coordination of prints and because of its semi-silk fabric.

Semi-silk: The perfect ally for watercolor

For a design to shine, the choice of fabric is vital. Elena’s illustration is a universe of subtleties: tiny stars, textures of the sky and small elements of nature that, in a more open weave, were at risk of being lost.

However, our Semi-Silk has turned out to be the perfect ally. Thanks to its very closed and thin ligament, the fabric acts as a high-resolution surface, allowing every micro-detail to be seen with absolute sharpness.

In addition, the design called for drama. The strong contrast between the deep black of the night and the starlight needed a support to enhance it. The satin sheen of our polyester semi-silk has achieved just that: dark colours gain depth and points of light vibrate with their own intensity.

On a tactile level, it is a unique experience. It has a fluid fall and an extremely soft touch that mimics the qualities of natural silk, but with the resistance and technical versatility of polyester.

We sat down with her in our studio to chat about her work, her inspiration, what her day-to-day work is like and what projects she dreams of doing.

If you are an illustrator, designer or simply someone who loves things well done, this talk will inspire you to launch your own projects.
